Gayndah to Adelaide Day 5

Above – The Darling River from the bridge at Wilcannia. Lots of water flowing down to the Murray.

Wilcannia

Up early at Wilcannia this morning and managed to get away by 7:05 with a 100% SOC of charge.  The car was plugged in all night for that to happen.  As can be seen from the image above, the Darling River was well filled and flowing quite fast at the bridge in Wilcannia, with water around the road in places but nowhere over the road.  It was trying hard to rain early on but was not much more than nuisance value

Broken Hill

Close up of Broken Hill charger.

We were pleased to plug the Broken Hill charger in when we arrived and see that it was working. We arrived there at 9:00 with a SOC of 41% after travelled 197Ks.

The PlugShare app that we use to let us know where chargers are where and when they are used indicated that Broken Hill is not used very often. If it wasn’t working we would have had to book into a caravan park at Broken Hill and so be one day delayed in getting to Adelaide. The charger is quite near the local Information Centre so we went there for a look around and then had a drink at Gloria Jeans. By then the car was almost charged and ready to go.

No towns of any size between Broken Hill and Peterborough so we stopped at Manna Hill, and boiled up the billy for lunch.

You do cross over the border to S A not all that far out of Broken Hill and then when you are almost to Peterborough there is the fruit check – the guy comes and checks that you are not carrying and fruit. I had our last Orange for breakfast this morning and the first thing we did at Peterborough was stop at the supermarket and get some fruit.

Peterborough

We arrived in Peterborough just on 2:00, the booking in time for most caravan parks. We have stayed at this park when we had the caravan. We had travelled 280Ks from Broken Hill and had 25% SOC. The cabin we have been put in here is brand new and very comfortable. They charged up $20 for plugging the car in over night which we are quite happy about.
